Non-compact spin chains and integrable stochastic particle processes

Abstract: We review some aspects of non-compact Heisenberg spin chains in the framework of the quantum inverse scattering method for closed and open boundary conditions. Next we show that the Hamiltonian of these spin chains can be interpreted as the Markov generator of a stochastic particle process. In the case of closed chains we find that the stochastic models belong to the family of models derived by Povolotsky. For the rational case we show how the models can be extended to processes with reservoirs preserving integrability. Finally, we present a new method that relies on the quantum inverse scattering method which allows to obtain the steady state of such non-equilibrium models exactly. This is exemplified for the open SSEP which is related to the ordinary Heisenberg spin chain.
