Spying the Linux Kernel

Data : mercoledì 23 novembre 2022, ore 15.30
Aula : Lab M0.2 edificio Matematica

Titolo : Spying the Linux Kernel

Relatore : Andrea Righi - Canonical - Kernel Engineer

Abstract : Do you know what the kernel is doing while your user-space programs are running? This talk will explore some techniques (like eBPF, ftrace, krpobes, etc.) that will allow to look inside a live kernel at runtime. Understanding kernel internals in this way can be really helpful to track down performance bottlenecks, debug system failures and it can be a great way to approach to kernel development.

Andrea Righi works for Canonical as a Kernel Engineer, focusing on performance analysis, tracing and virtualization technologies. Andrea started working with the Linux kernel in 2004 while he was a student at the University of Siena. His contributions were mostly focused on the I/O subsystem, virtual memory subsystem and cgroups. He enjoys solving software problems and promoting the use of Linux and Open Source software everywhere.
